Travel Thursday: Fair is a Four-Letter Word

One of my favorite blog authors is Eric Barker, who writes thought-provoking and well-researched columns over at Barking Up the Wrong Tree. (He also recently published a book by the same name, if you prefer to do your reading offline.) And to kick off the year, he wrote a great post addressing a popular New Year’s resolution: This Is The Easy Way To Save Money: 6 Powerful Secrets From Research. I was enjoying the piece thoroughly, as I usually enjoy Eric’s writing. But it was the points around fairness that got me thinking about the airline industry. In the “Fair is …

Weekend Recap: Merry Christmas!

Laura_And_Lars_Adelphi_Hotel_Saratoga

I’ve had this entire week off work, which has been glorious! Unfortunately, I’ve spent most of it on the couch, since waking up the day after Christmas super sick 🙁 On Tuesday and Wednesday, I woke up with a swollen throat, but it went away within 30 minutes of waking up (and having some throat coat tea, which I’ve loved since I was a musical theater kid). The rest of the day, my back was really achy and I was just exhausted and out of it. I assumed flu, and was taking ibuprofen for the aches. Today, though, the achiness …

Spacious comfy seats, tasty food, exceptional service – all of these went away once airlines had to compete …

Weekend Recap: Sleepless on Friendsgiving

Another week has flown by, and I still haven’t done my weekend recap! To be honest, I was pretty cranky this weekend. The East Coast travel is not sitting well with me lately, and even when I go to bed at midnight in Denver and don’t set an alarm the next morning, I still wake up at 5am 🙁 So much for me clearing my calendar to catch up on sleep! Friday night, though, I was out late for a really fun reason: to check out the Pancakes and Booze Art Festival. Essentially, a ton of local artists come together …

Race Report: EDP Medio Maraton de la Mujer

Laura_Running_Madrid_Half_In_Front_of_Palacio_Cibeles

I was startled awake by my alarm when it went off at 6:50am Sunday morning – a not-so-auspicious sign. I was surprised that I hadn’t woken up easily, as I had gotten 11 hours of sleep on Friday night and now another 8.5 Saturday night before the race. But even though I didn’t wake up on my own, I was feeling pretty well-rested. I got ready for the race fairly quickly, even though I still hadn’t fully decided what to wear. I had packed several pairs of shorts, capris, tanks, and tees, thinking I’d hit the gym the other days …
