Race Report: Sangre de Cristo 50 Mile

Thumbs_Up_Not_Dying

In the days leading up to the Sangre de Cristo, I started getting cold feet… and especially when I started packing. Ultramarathons require so much stuff!! It reminded me of doing a triathlon, in a bad way – one of the things I liked least about doing a tri was how much equipment could make or break your race, and it seemed like that was also the case with doing an ultra. Whatever happened to just putting your sneakers on and going out for a run?! I toyed with the idea of just ignoring the “drop bags” (bags you pack ahead …

Weekend Recap: Committing to an Ultra

Heathers_Birthday_Four_Noses

My weekend kicked off with a fun (but safe) social event – my best friend Heather’s birthday! We had been discussing for weeks what to do to celebrate, since Heather is equally cautious about COVID, and she ultimately decided she wanted to invite a small group of people to meet for beers on the patio at Four Noses, her favorite brewery. It was wonderful! We had to wait a while (literally 1.5 hours) for a table to open up, but we were able to hang out in the parking lot talking away from everyone else in the meantime, and it …

Labor Day Weekend Recap: 48 Miles of Vail Trails

Legendary_Back_Bowls_Summer

As an elected official, I was pretty concerned about Labor Day weekend and its potential to drive cases of COVID19 up again. And as an individual, I didn’t want to be part of that spike in cases! So while typically I would have done some sort of fun weekend with friends, this weekend, I headed out to the mountains for some solo time on the trails. My company gave us both Friday and Monday off for the holiday, so I headed up on Thursday after work. However, I had a morning call for my role as Trustee, which meant I …

Weekend Recap / Race Report: Camp Hale Half Marathon

Camp_Hale_Half_Rainy_Finish

Last Saturday, I ran a real race (not a virtual one) – the Camp Hale Half Marathon! There were so many reasons I didn’t think this race would happen. Obviously, COVID has caused the cancellation of most races this year, but it seemed like a few smaller trail races were still happening. But even beyond the barrier of COVID, Colorado has been going through some pretty nasty wildfires lately – including the Pine Gulch fire, which has burned 140,000 acres so far and is the biggest in Colorado history, Unfortunately, all that smoke has made the air quality in Colorado terrible for …

Weekend Recap: All Al Fresco

Liza_and_Albert_Visit

My weekend kicked off with a blast from the past, with an old friend visiting town. Liza and I went to college together, and also both worked at Deloitte as our first job out of undergrad (along with my good friend Kelly, who lives in Arvada and was the one to convince me to move to Colorado). This weekend, Liza and her husband Albert had gotten her parents to watch their twin girls, and were visiting to Colorado for an adult getaway, and with the possibility of potentially moving! Kelly booked spots for us to enjoy dinner on a patio …
