Race Report: Manhattan Half-Marathon

One of my New Year’s resolutions has been accomplished: this morning I completed my first half-marathon. THIRTEEN POINT ONE MILES. I am so proud of myself. I’ve never really thought of myself as a runner – which may be because growing up I definitely wasn’t one. I couldn’t even complete the mile run in gym class; I usually walked half of it. Then I slowly started getting into jogging when I was bored in Florida, and in the summer of 2006 I completed my first 5K. When I say completed, I mean I still couldn’t run the whole thing, but …

Skirt Chasing

I haven’t even run my half-marathon on Sunday yet, but I’m already thinking about future races. I know I should probably be horribly offended by this, but… I want to be chased in a skirt. Preferably a pink one. And by a hot runner guy. I wish there was one of these races near me, though if I get on a travel project next, I suppose it won’t matter because I could go anywhere for a race. Shallow thoughts of a girl who wishes she were a cool runner

Those are really weird headphones poking out from under that girl’s headband. They look like pearl earrings. Wait, they are?! Wow, that is way too preppy… I can’t believe she’s wearing them while she runs. The two guys behind me seem to know EVERYONE. They keep saying hi to people. I wish I knew lots of people to say hi to. (Expletive expletive expletive) I think my left thigh is getting a bit sore. (Expletive). I am GOING to run this (expletive) race next weekend, and I am GOING to run 10 (expletive) miles today. I don’t care. It’s not …

Half-Marathon Here I Come!

I am totally in love with my new foam roller. I picked it up on Sunday after experiencing some nasty pain in my upper-outer-back thigh (from diagrams, I’m thinking the rectus femoris? #32 in that one). It started hurting last Monday, so I wasn’t sure if it was from my 12 mile run Saturday or the intense resistance training I did for my legs on Sunday. It wasn’t too bad – maybe a 4 on a pain scale – and only hurt while walking. Just a kind of general soreness, as if I had slept on it wrong. On Tuesday …

Some R-Rated Relaxation Tales

Last year, in college, I took a course on spa management. It sounds all silly and easy, but it was actually a pretty intense class. We learned about the different treatments you can have, design requirements, marketing, etc. The final project was to do a consulting project for an actual spa! My group did market research for Banyan Tree, who wanted to open a new spa in Marrakech, Morocco. It was really interesting, and I learned a lot. Since then, I’ve stayed interested in spas, so I try to visit on occasion. Unfortunately, they are expensive! During Spa Week, I …
