Race Report: NYRR Mini 10K

Delayed race report number 1. I make no promises for when delayed race report 2 (Providence half-marathon) will come out. There’s nothing like a race you’ve already registered for to get your butt out of bed and out pounding the pavement even when the temperatures are predicted to be a sweltering 104 degrees! I had planned to do a long (20+ mile) run this weekend as preparation for the Seafair Marathon. I still haven’t signed up for Seafair, as I’m waiting to do a long run to decide whether I’m ready for another full marathon or if I should stick …

At what point do you define yourself as a runner?

I find myself asking this question all the time. When people ask me my hobbies, I don’t typically answer with running. When people ask if I’m a runner, I hedge and say “yeah, I run sometimes.” But for some reason, I don’t feel like I can actually call myself a runner. Last summer, when I started running in earnest, I thought of myself as just someone who ran sometimes. I wasn’t a runner – runners did half-marathons. In January, when I did my first half-marathon, I still didn’t think of myself as a runner – it would take a marathon …

Double Day: The Ultimate Absolut(ly) Fit Challenge

A “double” typically refers to two marathons in one weekend. However, since I’m totally hardcore (and certifiably crazy), today is my double day, and I’m doing two marathons in one day! Okay, so one isn’t a running marathon, and the other is me doing a marathon course and not an organized race. But it’s BOSTON, the granddaddy of all marathons, and I actually went further than 26.2 (I haven’t mapped it yet to know exactly how much further). I woke up at 5:45, threw my running stuff on, and headed out. My hotel is about 1/10 mile from the finish …

Running with a RBF

Tonight I was lucky enough to meet a Running Blogging Friend – Paul! (If you don’t read his blog, you should: it’s interesting and informative, and will make you jealous of his amazing job that lets him think and talk about running all the time). Paul works for Nike in their special promotions/events/etc branding, which means he manages the amazing Runners’ Station that I’ve blogged about in the past. In fact, I was first introduced to Paul when he tried to help me identify some of the cute workers there that I blogged about 🙂 For a while now, Paul …

Race Report: Key Bank Vermont City Marathon

When I last left you on my marathon journey (before I ruined the suspense and told you that I finished and approximately how well I did), I had just gotten home from the pasta dinner with a stomachache that I thought was nerves (note for women only: I discovered later that it was actually female troubles come early. Fantastic). I laid out all my gear as I had seen people do in Spirit of the Marathon, and tried to go to sleep, though by that I really meant I went on Google Reader and read/commented on all of your blogs …
