Does Apple Cider Vinegar Cure Colds?

Braggs_Apple_Cider_Vinegar

I’ve been really sick with a nasty cold this week, though trying hard to hold it together. It started on Sunday night as a slight tickle in my threat… enough to make me say, “uh oh.” I had a big bowl of chicken pho for dinner, hoping that would help. Unfortunately, I woke up on Monday morning and it was much worse. My throat hurt like crazy to swallow or talk… and yet, I was supposed to kick off a week of functional workshops with a whole team of people who had flown in from France for the occasion! This was …

The Double Whammy of a Sleep Shortage

No_Grit_No_Pearl

The beginning of my week when I’m on the road is rather rough. Every Monday, I catch a 6am flight to my client, which means I have to get up around 4am to be out of the house and on my way to the airport by 4:20am. (Yes, I keep my Monday morning routine as short as possible.) This week, unfortunately, I set my alarm wrong and accidentally got up at 3am instead of 4am – and got as far as brushing my teeth and putting my contacts in before I realized my mistake. D’oh! I tried to go back to …

It’s tough when kids are picky eaters, but what’s even harder is figuring out exactly what we should be feeding them. The USDA food pyramid calls for 6-11 servings of grains, 3-5 servings of vegetables, 2-4 servings of fruit, 2-3 servings of dairy, and 2-3 servings of meat/beans/eggs/nuts per day – and they suggest eating fats sparingly. I loved the food pyramid when I was a …

Bottled water by my bedside

Dasani_Bottle

Before I get into the rest of my Sonoma trip, I wanted to do a quick post on a new habit I’ve picked up. Remember how I wrote about a first domino being something that creates a big impact? Well, I’ve stumbled upon a new “first domino” that is really helping me get healthy. Everyone says that drinking water is a quick way to improve your skin, managing your weight, and just generally improve your health. (Here’s a Greatist article on 12 reasons to drink more water). In the past, I’ve tried to count my glasses of water or otherwise increase …

Why is hiking so different from stair climbing?

Not sure if I’ve posted about this before, but I bought a Fitbit Charge HR about a month ago, thanks to my new team in Dallas. They pretty much all wear Fitbits, and they have “Work Week Hustle” challenges every week to see who can get the most steps in Monday through Friday. I have to admit, I haven’t paid much attention to the leaderboard (last week I won and didn’t even realize it till after the fact?) – though I think part of that is that I’ve been traveling and haven’t been sitting in the office with the team much. However, …
