Halloween never used to be a big deal to me, but this year, I’ve kind of been going all-out with the celebrations. Two weeks ago, I got to do the Great Pumpkin Haul, where I dressed up as superwoman and lugged a 33 pound pumpkin around a two mile obstacle course. Last weekend, I went to a pumpkin beer festival and also carved a pumpkin pi at Big Choice Brewing. And today, I actually have three different costumes for different parts of my day!
I just started checking out a new bootcamp near me, Mountain Girl Fitness. I went to my first class on Wednesday, and had an absolute blast! Not only was the owner, Amy, really awesome, but everyone in the class seems to have great camaraderie – which is one of the most important things to me about forming a regular workout routine. Part of what I loved so much about Flywheel Texas was that everyone was so nice and it felt like you were going to hang out with your friends, so you always wanted to go to class. I can definitely see that happening here, since it seems to be a big group of regulars – all of whom are incredibly welcoming.
To make the class even more fun, Amy renamed a lot of the workout with holiday-themed names. So we got to do “pumpkin picking squats” (weighted squat to overhead press), “grave diggers” (woodchops), etc. But I also really liked the fun little game she had for us to the “Thriller” music: jog in place for the whole song, except whenever Michael Jackson sings the word “you” or “your”, do a squat jump, and whenever he sings the word “thriller”, do a burpee (without the jump). I thought I knew the song pretty well thanks to all the dance practice I’ve been doing lately (more on that later), but it was a little hard to hear the words so we really had to listen closely. The chorus was definitely brutal! If you want a quick six minutes of sweat give it a try.
I needed to be downtown for some early morning meetings today, so I had to leave bootcamp early in order to shower and don a work-appropriate costume. Maybe this is a cop out, but I went with the same costume I wore to work last year for Halloween: Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. At my old client, Halloween was a very big deal, and I guess now that’s rubbed off on me!
But the piece de resistance is going to be tonight. I’m headed up to Boulder dressed as a zombie flight attendant… because I’m going to be part of a zombie flash mob doing the Thriller dance on Pearl Street! I just heard about this opportunity earlier this week, so I’ve been practicing a ton after work using this awesome guide to the dance. I’m proud to say that I think I have it down and will do a decent job 🙂 And it seems that they film this performance every year, so perhaps I’ll have a Youtube video of the performance to post? I have no shame about stuff like this, so if it’s out there, I’ll be sure to share it!
Hope you are having a happy Halloween – stay safe and have a great weekend!
Hey! Your name came up at our marathon meeting last night. Good to see what you are up to – Happy Halloween!
Ann, great to hear from you! Please let me know if I can ever do anything else for the POW Marathon; I am recommending it to everyone I know!
I want to see this zombie flight attendant outfit! I know you’ll get this – having flown a lot, I’ve felt like a zombie on a plane MANY a time. 😉
There is a video so you will definitely be seeing it soon 🙂 And yes, I know EXACTLY what you mean!
