Race Report: Heels and Hills and Him Half Marathon

Despite the fact that New York is known as “the city that never sleeps,” I am usually in bed by 1am there. In Dallas? Well, apparently when out with friends here, I don’t go to bed until 6:30am. Yes, two nights before my half marathon (aka the most important night to get a good night’s rest). Oops. We spent Saturday going to an incredible Latin brunch at a place my friend JP recommended… and then pretty much going back to bed for the rest of the day. While BF napped, I’m not much of a napper, so I caught up …

Pushups: One set at a time

Inspired by both Viper and Crossfit, I’ve been working on my pushups lately. Remember last summer, when I could crank out 100 full body pushups in both the morning and evening, in less than three minutes each time? Gosh, that was amazing – thank you to the Insanity program for making me able to accomplish such a feat. Unfortunately, one year later, my strength has dwindled, and I can’t even crank out one set of ten full body pushups. Nothing to do but work on it! A few weeks ago, I found this traveling WOD, which is very simple: 150 …

Choreographed movements using a ballet barre, light weights and a glide board are set to motivating music.” After two months of classes at NYSC, I have to say – I am hooked! While the class uses extremely light weights and lots of repetitions, which I am …

Two runs, two ways

Today I ran twice. I know, I know, I haven’t run for a few weeks due to some calf issues, but now that I come back I run twice in a day? What can I say, go big or go home! In all seriousness, it was more that there were two group run opportunities that I really wanted to try. The first was at 6:30am – a coworker who is new to running asked me to be his running buddy, so we’ve agreed to start meeting before work to run around the lake near our office, and then take advantage …

What I’m watching/reading

Happy Monday! Or… Tuesday. But after getting insanely sick this weekend, sleeping for 30 out of 36 hours, and then having to move my travel schedule to fly out Tuesday morning… my brain is a bit confused. Usually, Sunday is when I go to bed super early in preparation for my early morning flight, Monday is the longest day of the week, and then by Tuesday I start to get on a normal schedule (just in time for me to fly home on Thursday night and have another day that throws me off, since I work a full day but then …
