It’s not my fault – the wineries are literally calling out to me!

I’ve been trying to steer clear of drinking lately, in part due to getting a reminder from this article how bad alcohol is for weight loss. However, it’s a bit tough to do when I have companies like the fabulous Toasted Head Winery thanking me publicly for choosing their wines. Now that they’ve reminded me, I can’t help but crave their buttery oaky Chardonnay! I had it for the first time as a sample in the wine tasting course I took in college, but it’s long stuck with me as a favorite – if you haven’t tried it already, I’d highly recommend it.

Speaking of having a glass, tomorrow night I’m heading down to Miami (en route to Jamaica for Saturday’s Reggae Marathon)… and a friend there has been saving a bottle of the Toasted Head Chardonnay for me to share tomorrow night. I think in honor of this mention, I may have to break the streak. Still, I haven’t had a drink all week, even after Monday’s brutal tabata workout. I deserve it! (Before anyone accuses me of being an alcoholic, let me point out that when you go out to dinner every night with a big group and everyone else is drinking, it’s really hard to not have at least one glass of wine. Willpower!)

Now, going back to fitness and that article… my favorite part was:

Researchers found that women who had one or two alcoholic drinks a day were actually less likely to gain weight than those who shunned the sauce. And they did it while consuming more calories overall (from food and drink) than both heavy drinkers and teetotalers. Short of striking a deal with the devil, how did they manage to pull that off? Researchers believe that the bodies of long-term moderate drinkers somehow adapt to metabolize alcohol differently than heavy or occasional drinkers.

So I think that article is telling me to drink more, until I am moderate (vs going for this silly teetotaler approach). Woo, chardonnay! 🙂

  1. I’m sorry but i can’t read your blog anymore. you post multiple ones at the same time and they’re never current. You post about a marathon that you did 2 weeks ago. it gets confusing.
