Halloween Marathon!

Shortly after Friday’s post, I got offered a free entry to the Marine Corps Marathon and promptly accepted. I’ve heard great things about the MCM, and am really looking forward to the opportunity to run it.

Now, what makes the race especially interesting this year is that it’s being held on Sunday, October 31st. Halloween! You know what means… I want to run in some kind of fun costume. However, I think whatever costume I pick should be somewhat topical/appropriate. Luckily, I have plenty of time to think about it and try out different options. Here’s what I’ve come up with so far:
-Cheetah, the fastest animal (costume here). I think this is my favorite so far.
-Greek goddess, like Pheidippides (costume here)
-Dash from the Incredibles (costume here)
-Maybe another superhero? Lots of options if I go that route.
Anyone have any preferences, or other suggestions? I’m leaning away from something military-style, since I think there are a lot of actual Marines who run the MCM, and I wouldn’t want to try to take credit for being something I’m not.

  1. My daughter and I are running as Ladybug Girl and Bumblebee Boy (like the book) for a Halloween 10k. I like the goddess-and remember the MCM temps are surprisingly warm!

  2. I’d say either cheetah or Greek goddess~ I like both, and the Incredibles costume will just be too hot. While October weather in DC can definitely be variable, MCM last year was mid-50s to low-60s…pretty nice, but still warmer than I like my marathons.

If you’d like, if you’re in town longer than just to run the marathon and get back to NY, would love to meet up for a short warm up run the day before let me know (I’m here in DC 🙂 Also, you do realize that the Saturday (so the day before MCM) is the Jon Stewart/Colbert rally on the mall?! Think my roommates and I will be hosting a shindig after…so the night before MCM…know you don’t know me from Adam, but you’re more than welcome!

  3. Ooh, I’m so excited for you! MCM was my absolute favorite marathon, you’re going to love it! I’d say go as Dash. The year I ran it, I spent lots of time running near one of the presidential bobble heads (I think it was Lincoln) and the joggler is a staple in DC area races. Keep an eye out for them.

    Have so much fun!
