Sicky sicky

Boyfriend started getting sick at the end of last week, and like a good girlfriend, I tried to take care of him. He didn’t want me to stay home from my marathon, but I made sure to stock up his kitchen with cans of chicken soup for him to heat up (the unlikely solution) and suggestions for takeout places with healthy/nutritious options (might actually happen, at least if I keep calling him and reminding him that he needs to eat). He didn’t have it too bad, fortunately, and he made it through the weekend okay.

When I got back from the race on Sunday, I immediately headed over to his place to rub his back and take care of him. Unfortunately, this meant that I woke up Monday with a slight tickle in my throat – an indicator that I was getting it. I ate well, rested up, and hoped for the best. The tickle in my throat went away as soon as I had a cup of coffee, but Tuesday morning it was back, and it wouldn’t go away. As the day went on, I felt worse and worse, until by late afternoon, I knew I wouldn’t be making it in to work the next day.

I went home and immediately headed to bed, skipping dinner until later. When Boyfriend finished work a few hours later, he came over for his turn to take care of me, bringing dinner (takeout chicken tikka masala) and a stuffed animal for me to cuddle. After a good night’s rest, I woke up feeling not quite better, but not much worse than yesterday afternoon.

I spent the day resting on the couch/in bed, eating well (more chicken, this time Dallas BBQ), and drinking lots of fluids. I haven’t had any of the dizzy/disoriented feelings I was starting to get by the end of the day yesterday, but my throat is still a teeny bit sore and I know I’m not in tip top shape. The question is, am I ready for my double marathon this weekend? New Hampshire is on Saturday and Maine is on Sunday, and they’re not supposed to be easy. Hope I develop some superpowers!
