A dieting triumph!

Tonight I finally hit on a restaurant that can make what I want. Turner Fisheries is right in the hotel (well, not really in the hotel… but the hotel connects to a large plaza and it’s right in that) where I stay, and for dinner I was able to order 6 oz swordfish grilled dry, with a seafood stock “sauce” (no butter!), some roasted fingerling potatoes that just have a bit of olive oil on them, and two pieces of delicious warm French bread. Would have been nice if it were some kind of nutritious veggie instead of a starchy …

22 years old and already heart attack bound

I mentioned a few weeks ago that my doctor was concerned about my cholesterol and that I was getting tested for it. Well, results are in, and although my total cholesterol level isn’t too bad, my LDL level (the bad cholesterol) is almost double the normal. EEK! I went in for a follow-up on Friday, and she gave me a “no-list” of foods that I am now only allowed to have once or twice a month, max: Butter/margarineMayonnaiseCheese of any kindEgg yolksRed meatsAvocado On the bright side, having a medical reason to need to watch my diet is making it …

Healthy Meal: Frank and Beans

This weekend wasn’t really a good one for me cooking-wise. I was so looking forward to coming back and making yummy food, but I ended up being so busy that I actually didn’t cook almost at all! Then Friday afternoon I made a quick healthy lunch of a grilled turkey burger patty and peas, but that’s not so much a recipe. Saturday I …

It’s officially prep time!

It’s official. I have signed up for my first marathon. In less than two weeks, I will be in Burlington, VT (home of the Ben & Jerry’s Factory) and about to make the ultimate leap from non-runner to marathoner in the Keybank Vermont City Marathon! I’m super psyched. At lunch today, my manager wanted to know how fast Oprah ran (4:29), because he says if I can’t beat her it’s pathetic and he’d laugh at me. Pretty high pressure! I told him going 26 miles is much harder than you think. He said he could easily walk it in 6 …

Not the usual Monday morning

As we were waiting in line for takeoff, a woman on my flight had a stroke. We headed back to the gate and emergency people came on board to take her away. So scary! I really hope she is okay… The guy a few seats in front of me is bitching about being delayed, because our flight was supposed to land at 8:30 and is now not taking off until then or maybe later. What an asshole.
