Night Before the Race: National Marathon

This post is about my day on Friday, 3/25. I was too consumed with getting as much sleep as possible for the race to write/post this at the end of the night! Thursday night, I dosed up on the last of my medication and then went to bed at 8:30pm. Since I was working from “home” (i.e., my hotel room) on Friday and because I was skipping my usual morning workout due to being sick, I wouldn’t have to wake up until 8am – yippee! But I still wanted as much rest as possible. I was getting really scared about …

Food for thought

This morning, I caught up with an old college friend for brunch. Turns out she moved to the Upper West Side and actually lives in Ex-Boyfriend’s old apartment! Small world. We had a great time at brunch, with our topics ranging from regular catchup to our thoughts on our futures and what we wanted to eventually do with our careers. One of the most interesting things we discussed was Sheryl Sandberg’s TED talk, Why We Have Too Few Woman Leaders. I had been sent this video by a lot of different people in the past week or so, but didn’t …

How Can I Motivate You?

Last night was my company holiday party. (I have no idea why it was being held in January instead of December, and it was rather unfortunate, as there wasn’t much holiday spirit to it – more like a random happy hour.) But I gorged myself on desserts nonetheless, including accepting the offer of a to-go cup of cocoa and marshmallows on my way out the door. Nice touch! Surprisingly, I didn’t indulge that much on the alcohol front – just wasn’t that appealing to me for some reason. Hopefully I’m not losing the Absolut(ly) Fit mentality… This morning, after a …

Morning/Nighttime/Weekend Warriors: It’s No Use

As I continue with my ongoing battle to avoid the Consulting 15, today I came across this little gem, titled The More You Sit, The Sooner You’ll Die. Basically, whether you get in a solid chunk of exercise at the beginning or end of the day is less important than how much you sit during the day. Yikes! I need a Trek Desk, stat! I totally believe this from my own anecdotal evidence – when I was working for an airline, I only worked 40 hours/week but I didn’t do much working out (aside from weekend marathons). Now, I work …

New digs, new gym

First night at my new home (the Westin in DC), and I immediately headed down to the gym to check out the equipment. Not too shabby – there’s a multipurpose weight machine, a pretty extensive set of dumbbells, four treadmills, three ellipticals, two stationary bikes, and a stair stepper. The nice part of all this is it’s spread out in a multi-level room that extends around several corners, so you don’t feel boxed in at all, and there is a separate mirrored room in the back with some mats and exercise balls. And this weird donut ring thing. For size …
