Adventure Inspiration: Banff Mountain Film Fest

Banff-Mountain-Film-Fest

Tomorrow is March 1st, which means it’s about time for me to recap my favorite TED talks of February. However, today I want to talk about an awesome and inspiring event I attended last night: the Banff Mountain Film Festival. Wondering what the Banff Mountain Film Festival is, and how I got to see it in Denver? Basically, the regular festival (which features all short films and documentaries about mountain culture and adventure sports) takes place in Banff; however, immediately after the regular festival, the best films from the festival go on a world tour of 305 cities in 20 …

Beaver Creek and World-Class Skiing (Plus World-Fail Line Standing)

2015 World Ski Championships

Yesterday was a pretty hectic day. I crammed as much work as I could into the morning, then headed over to my realtor’s office in the afternoon for a pretty serious discussion – we needed to talk pricing for my second try at putting in an offer on a house! I am really hopeful about this one, and put in what I think is a really strong offer, so cross your fingers for me – I am incredibly nervous until I hear the news tomorrow! While I’m definitely stressing about the house, I found a great way today to take …

An Unscheduled Weekend of Mishaps

Flat Tire

This was kind of a weekend of mishaps – in large part due to some really unstructured time management on my part. On Friday night, I was supposed to meet up with a friend for dinner. Unfortunately, on Thursday night, I had gotten less than two hours of sleep – partly the result of me refusing to give up on a social activity that night even though I had work to do, and partly because… there was just so much work to do! All week I hadn’t been sleeping enough, so Friday morning I regretfully texted my friend to cancel …

Triple Threat Day on the Slopes

Keystone - Ice Sculpture

Although I got my splint/wrap off on Tuesday, my arm hasn’t been completely up to snuff yet. I still can’t bend it more than about 90 degrees, and I can’t lift anything heavier than my purse (although that’s huge improvement over when I could barely lift my cell phone)… but I can go skiing! I asked the doctor about restrictions on activity, and he basically said that I could try anything that didn’t hurt, although he wouldn’t recommend heavy weight lifting. So then I asked the classic Coloradan question: when can I go skiing? He was a little worried about …

Skiing Lesson #2: Harder is Easier (And More Fun!)

Breck Girls Weekend

Today I played “ski bum” by skipping work and heading out to the mountains. After a gorgeous drive out with no traffic on I-70 (hooray for leaving on a weekday morning!), I arrived at A-Basin and was able to get in about a dozen runs. It was definitely a little bit icy – which is to be expected for early season – but I did pretty well, and found myself really comfortable on all the intermediate terrain. I wasn’t straightlining, by any means, but I was definitely taking a more vertical approach than carving wide turns like you do as …
