Race Report: Bolder Boulder 10K

BolderBoulder_2022_Finish (1)

After my last post, I thought I was on the mend. My business trip was mostly successful, and for about a week, I got my crying time down to 1-3 hours a day. That may sound bad, but I thought it was amazing compared to what it was before. Crying for only a few hours today meant that I could work, could exercise, could start trying to repair friendships… and it felt manageable, at least in the short term. Then on Thursday, I woke up at 4am in my hotel room in Chicago, crying hysterically. Why? I don’t know. There were only …

Weekend Recap / Race Report: Siete de Mayo and Colorado Women’s Classic

2nd_Place_Race

Speaking of returning to “the new normal”… this weekend, I was thrilled to convene my friends for my first “party” in over a year. Normally, Cinco de Mayo is a great excuse for me to host dozens of friends to eat Mexican food and drink margaritas. This year, I scaled it back to a party of eight people instead of eighty, but still made all the same dishes. And it was a lot of fun! I was able to intersperse some party prep into my work day – particularly since I’ve gotten my menu for this party down to a …

Race Report: Sangre de Cristo 50 Mile

Thumbs_Up_Not_Dying

In the days leading up to the Sangre de Cristo, I started getting cold feet… and especially when I started packing. Ultramarathons require so much stuff!! It reminded me of doing a triathlon, in a bad way – one of the things I liked least about doing a tri was how much equipment could make or break your race, and it seemed like that was also the case with doing an ultra. Whatever happened to just putting your sneakers on and going out for a run?! I toyed with the idea of just ignoring the “drop bags” (bags you pack ahead …

Weekend Recap / Race Report: Camp Hale Half Marathon

Camp_Hale_Half_Rainy_Finish

Last Saturday, I ran a real race (not a virtual one) – the Camp Hale Half Marathon! There were so many reasons I didn’t think this race would happen. Obviously, COVID has caused the cancellation of most races this year, but it seemed like a few smaller trail races were still happening. But even beyond the barrier of COVID, Colorado has been going through some pretty nasty wildfires lately – including the Pine Gulch fire, which has burned 140,000 acres so far and is the biggest in Colorado history, Unfortunately, all that smoke has made the air quality in Colorado terrible for …

Race Report: Back on my Feet Meaningful Miles Virtual 5K

Finish_BomF_5K

Last summer, I attended the Denver launch of Back on my Feet (BomF), a nonprofit that seeks to combat homelessness by first building confidence and self-esteem through weekly group runs, then enrolling participants in financial literacy classes and job skills training. I haven’t been able to volunteer with BomF since that first run, but my good friend Heather sits on their Board, and I joined her team for their fundraiser 5K, which was supposed to be last weekend. But… COVID19 happened. And the 5K turned from a physical race around Sloan’s Lake, to a virtual race. The “race” kicked off …
