What If You Commit… Tomorrow?

Shlomo Benartzi TED

This morning, I watched a pretty thought-provoking TED talk while getting dressed. (Yes, it takes me nearly 20 minutes to pull gym/lounge clothes on, put my contacts in, and brush my teeth. I told you I can only do things slowly!) Shlomo Benartzi, a behavioral economist, did a TED talk in 2011 called “Saving for tomorrow, tomorrow.” At first I thought I was kind of dumb. Okay, maybe not dumb, but more that all the information and studies were ones I had heard about before. Shlomo talks about how when people have to check the box on their driver’s license …

No Goals for New Year’s Eve

It’s December 31, with only a few hours left left in 2013… and that means it’s time for an end of year wrap-up / new goal setting post, right? (At least according to the rest of the blogs I follow in Feedly.) Well, I know that my blog is supposed to be about goal setting, but I’m going to throw y’all for a bit of a loop this year. I usually embrace the chance to devise a whole slew of SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-Bound goals). To some people, New Year’s is about the festivities. To me, I honestly hate …

My Commitment! January Challenge

My New Year’s Eve was quite a bit more epic than expected. 2013 New Year’s Resolutions

(Apparently everyone else is waiting to post these until tomorrow, but how can you start the year right if you haven’t yet figured out your goals? I’m diving in!) When trying to figure out my 2013 goals, I had a lot of thoughts swirling around my little peanut brain (so-called because BF and I actually measured my head circumference and found that it is in the 6th percentile for adult female head size). Every time I try to “shoot for the moon,” I am surprised to learn that what I thought was impossible is actually doable – and so I …

Q1 New Year’s Resolution Progress Report

I can’t believe we’re already coming up on the month of April. The year is a quarter of the way over already! (And despite paying for a TurboTax software package back in January that I split with some friends, I still haven’t filed my taxes. So much for getting them done early!) With time flying by so quickly, I thought it would be prudent to check in on my New Year’s Resolutions for the year, and see how I’m doing. If I haven’t made any progress, that’s fine – there are still three more quarters in which to do so …
