Review: Flywheel Texas

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you may remember my underwhelming experience trying Soulcycle a few months back. Several readers suggested that perhaps I would prefer Flywheel, the city’s other major boutique cycling studio. But I never made it to Flywheel… until I was deep in the heart of Texas. Flywheel Dallas opened on Sunday, and I’ve been lucky enough to get to go to three different classes already (one preview and two actual classes). And the verdict? I. Love. It. I’ve been going to the 6am classes to get my workout done before heading into the …

Race Report: Heels and Hills and Him Half Marathon

Despite the fact that New York is known as “the city that never sleeps,” I am usually in bed by 1am there. In Dallas? Well, apparently when out with friends here, I don’t go to bed until 6:30am. Yes, two nights before my half marathon (aka the most important night to get a good night’s rest). Oops. We spent Saturday going to an incredible Latin brunch at a place my friend JP recommended… and then pretty much going back to bed for the rest of the day. While BF napped, I’m not much of a napper, so I caught up …

Interview with VBarre Founder Veronica Combs

For the past few months, I’ve had the opportunity to try out sessions of a new class at New York Sports Club – VBarre. “Vbarre transcends the typical ballet barre exercise class by blending ballet, Pilates and resistance training into a calorie-burning workout. Choreographed movements using a ballet barre, light weights and a glide board are set to motivating music.” After two months of classes at NYSC, I have to say – I am hooked! While the class uses extremely light weights and lots of repetitions, which I am …

Two runs, two ways

Today I ran twice. I know, I know, I haven’t run for a few weeks due to some calf issues, but now that I come back I run twice in a day? What can I say, go big or go home! In all seriousness, it was more that there were two group run opportunities that I really wanted to try. The first was at 6:30am – a coworker who is new to running asked me to be his running buddy, so we’ve agreed to start meeting before work to run around the lake near our office, and then take advantage …

No such thing as a bad run

Unfortunately, after writing that post all about my new suite, I have to take it back. First of all, the gym was terrible – literally had one elliptical, one treadmill, and no weights aside from a set of medicine balls that maxed out at 8 pounds! That was just not going to cut it for me. I know that you can get a great workout with body weight alone, but if I’m going to the gym, I want something heavy to lift – otherwise, I’ll stay in my room. Furthermore, the location turned out to be a bit far from …
