Recalibrating My Restaurant Portions

Beer_Flight_At_BRU

Given that we’re already two-thirds of the way through the month, I suppose it’s about time that I give you an update on how I’m doing with my friend Erica’s June Hot Body Challenge, yes? The first few days went pretty well. Looking at my diet as a “challenge” and a limited time in which I was supposed to make good decisions made it easier. (Even though I know all the psychology around it being bad to look at healthy eating as a “diet” instead of a “lifestyle.”) I even went to a work happy hour and made fairly reasonable …

Get More Energy by Giving More Energy

How has it been for me giving up caffeine this month? Not so good. I chose this goal in large part because I was hoping it would encourage me to sleep more, but I’ve recently found that even when I arrange a free morning where I can sleep as late as I want, the most I can get myself to sleep is 7.5 hours. I determined a few years ago on a solo vacation that 8 hours a night is the perfect amount of sleep for me (although of course maybe that’s changed now)… but I just have not quite …

Caffeine-Free October

So apparently we are already a third of the way into the month of October and I haven’t yet publicly declared any goals for the month. Fail. I did a good job with exercising daily in September (even though that wasn’t my original goal), and while I had to change it up mid-month, I was happy that I achieved that little win by month end. As a bonus, I discovered some new workouts I really love (like Bodybar and Flybarre), and I feel like I’m in better shape going into (okay, midway through) October than I was in August. So hooray for that! As I …

Checking In: Why I’m Not Stronger in September

Well, I’ve been pretty quiet so far this month, huh? Time for me to get back into the blogging game, especially since fall marathon season has begun. Lots of race recaps to share (I’m planning to finish my Bozeman Marathon recap on Friday), plus I also wanted to do a mid-month check in on my Stronger in September challenge. Thanks to a Bodybar Dallas one-week-unlimited pass that needed to be used last week, I ended up taking pilates/barre classes all week long. While I had taken mat pilates classes as a young ballet dancer, last week was my first time experiencing …

Don’t Break the Chain: Motivating Myself to Make Things a Habit

Several times in my Sunday Links I Love posts, I’ve shared articles about the Seinfeld Strategy (like this one from the Buffer Blog). It’s really quite genius, especially for goody-two-shoes me. (Fun fact: in 5th grade, I loved getting stickers on the “books I’ve read” chart my teacher kept for everyone in the class… until he had to get a separate “Laura’s books chart” that was just for my stickers, because I had too many to fit on the regular one. Biggest nerd ever? I think the fact that I was proud of that instead of deeply embarrassed says it all.) Anyway, in …
