Giveaway: SELF Magazine Workout in the Park NYC!

So remember how I decided to do Insanity? It was in part because a friend invited me and in part to save money, but it was also partially because I remembered it being OMGTHEHARDESTWORKOUTEVER and I thought it would whip me into insane shape. Instead, I found out that I’m apparently already in much better shape than I thought I was – and that maybe it’s not right for me after all. The first workout of Insanity is a fit test. You do eight exercises for one minute each, as fast as you can, counting the reps as you go …

Should Fitness Studios Ban Their Competition?

A friend is hoping to launch a new fitness studio in NYC later this fall. I’m not going to say too much about the concept, since that’s really his news, but it’s completely different than anything I’ve seen in NYC so far. I’m really excited for it to open, and will definitely keep you posted on details! Since my schedule is crazy busy with travel and he’s pretty busy as well, for our next catch up, we decided to do a morning workout and then grab breakfast afterward. The verdict is that he’s going to be just fine, though he needs to …

Beer Festival / Giveaway

I’m tired of whining about my weight, so this week, I decided something big. I decided to give up my beloved beer. It only takes one look at my blog header to know that I’m someone who enjoys going out and having fun. Despite all the marathons I’ve run, I’ve always been insistent that it be balanced with fun. (The guy I’m currently seeing told me he was surprised when he met me in person, because he thought based on my profile that I would want to eat salad all day long and never touch alcohol and run a million …

Weekend Recap: Workout in the Park and Scavenger Hunt

Now that I’m finally all caught up on my race reports, let’s do a little weekend catch up, shall we? Since I was going to be out of town for the next two weeks due to RRCA certification, the Colfax Marathon, and the Vermont City Marathon, a big part of my weekend plans revolved around getting to see friends and the guy I’ve been seeing. Lately the work travel has really been wearing on me for the simple reason that I don’t get enough time in NYC to see everyone! While in the past, I’ve taken many trips around the …
