Vacation recap, in brief

While this was a quick trip, mostly aimed at getting to run the Reggae Marathon, it ended up being a vacation that relaxed me almost as much and felt almost as fulfilling as a full week away. In an effort to keep this short and get this post up ASAP, I’m going to categorize the insights I gained this weekend. From books: I read Charlotte Hilton Andersen’s The Great Fitness Experiment, which I’d highly recommend. I’ve been reading her blog for years, but her book contained some new content and I found it really inspiring – expect a longer post …

Night Before the Race: Reggae Marathon

I spent last night in Miami, in preparation for my flight this morning to Montego Bay. After watching The Apprentice at the hotel (with my mom watching at home and us comparing notes via phone on commercial breaks – gotta love adapting to my travel!), I got to bed by about 11:30pm, and woke up at 8am – not a bad night’s sleep! I didn’t end up doing the tequila tasting in Cozumel – instead, we went to a beach resort called Carlos & Charlie’s, where the waiters were super fun and boisterous. I liked having the freedom …

In the spirit of yesterday’s “changing the rules” post, the title of this says it all. Half marathon report coming up! After another night with my new best friend Marty the bartender at the martini bar (yeah, I lost count of how many I had somewhere between the cucumber-and-basil “Eurekatini” and the watermelon-flavored “Flirtini”) and then exploring the onboard nightclub until 1am, you could say that I wasn’t really prepared for a marathon. Nonetheless, I crashed into bed with good intentions. When my alarm went off at 5:45am, however, it was harder to convince myself that this was a good …

DIY Fitness Cruise

With our impending acquisition, there was some buzz for a while about whether or not we’d get to roll our vacation days over to next year. I have a whole bunch of vacation left, so that was a big deal for me! However, with my current project, I can’t just take off for two weeks – and anyway, I’ve always preferred multiple shorter vacations to one long one. I started tentatively planning a few long weekends, but then got word that we would in fact be able to roll our vacation days over to 2011. Hooray! However, having already started …
