What I Read in December 2021

Best_Books_Of_December_2021

This is a catch up post, but includes all ten books I read in December 2021. 5 stars: The Paid Bridesmaid, by Sariah Wilson: Rachel runs a bridesmaid-for-hire business, and she’s working on a wedding for a famous Instagram influencer when she finds herself wanting to break one of her cardinal rules of business: never date someone you meet on the job. This was a really fun rom com that shed an interesting light on the bridesmaid-for-hire business as well as what it’s like behind the scenes of influencer events, and I found it well done and not TOO over the …

What I Read in November 2021

Best_Books_Of_November_2021

This is a catch up post, but includes all nine books I read in November 2021. 5 stars: The Heart Principle, by Helen Hoang: Anna is a professionalist violinist who is on a break from her career due to burnout, when her longtime boyfriend throws her another curveball and declares he wants an open relationship. While she’s always been a people pleaser, Anna decides to break with that and have a one night stand herself – but as you can imagine with a romance novel, it doesn’t end there. This was not your typical rom com novel, though, and delved into …

What I Read in October 2021

Best_Books_Of_October_2021

This is a catch up post, but includes all nine books I read in October 2021. 5 stars: If the Shoe Fits, by Julie Murphy: I loved this sweet and fun read, and finished it in just two nights! Cindy is an orphan who is living with her (actually delightful) stepmother and stepsisters, all of whom end up competing on a Bachelor-style reality show. I honestly didn’t totally pick up the Cinderella allegory until trying to write this description, which I think is good – it meant that the story felt fresh and original. I love books with a Bachelor-type premise, …

What I Read in September 2021

Best_Books_Of_September_2021

This is a catch up post, but includes all ten books I read in September 2021. 5 stars: Project Hail Mary, by Andy Weir: I was a little nervous to read this book, since Artemis was a bit of a let-down after how incredible The Martian was. But in this book, Weir gets back to his roots and really wowed me – I couldn’t put this down, and read it in two days! Ryland Grace wakes up on what he soon figures out is a space ship, but he doesn’t know why or how he got there… and he doesn’t …

What I Read in August 2021

Best_Books_Of_August_2021

This is a catch up post, but includes all six books I read in August 2021. 5 stars: Getting His Game Back, by Gia de Cadenet: Love, love, LOVED this smart chick-lit romance, which tackled a lot of difficult themes (interracial dating, race and bias in the corporate world, and mental health) without coming across as didactic. Khalil is a white man and a former player (of basketball and of women) who has been struggling with depression after a breakup; he is trying to “get his game back” (hence the title). Vanessa is a black woman who is the successful …
