I’m going to keep today’s post short and sweet. Tomorrow is National Friendship Day, and when FTD offered me the opportunity to surprise my “blogger bestie” with a bouquet of roses, I couldn’t resist sending a bouquet to Theodora. (Technically, Adam is my blogger bestie… but I felt like it wouldn’t really be in the spirit of “friendship day” to send roses to my boyfriend!)
I first met Theodora through some other NYC bloggers, when we went for a run together on the lower loop of Central Park. I had no idea that one run would turn into such a long-lasting friendship! We drifted apart a bit when I moved from NYC to Colorado two years ago, and at first, I worried that meant the end of our friendship. I couldn’t expect all my friendships to stay intact over thousands of miles, could I?
But as it turns out, you can recover from the challenges of long distance. One day I looked at my IM list and, remembering how often we used to chit chat and how much I missed that, I dropped her a quick note to say hi. We’re not as close as we once were when we lived a twenty minute run apart and could see each other all the time, but I’m so grateful that we’re back in touch and starting to figure out how to make the friendship work across the miles. And I definitely need to get on planning another visit back to New York to see her soon!
There are so many people I’ve lost touch with over the years, and National Friendship Day seems like as good an excuse as any to get back in touch with some wonderful people I haven’t seen in a while. I can’t send flowers to everyone, but it’s pretty easy to make a quick call or send someone an email to say hi and that I miss them. Who knows? Maybe it will lead to rekindling some other friendships as well.
Disclaimer: Thank you so much to FTD for sending Theodora and me each a beautiful bouquet of roses. I received no other compensation for this post, and all writing is my own 🙂
Ah, the mystery is solved! 🙂
🙂
May it live on on Facebook forever, though 😉 Thank you so much for the flowers and this post — so sweet <3 I'm glad we're back in touch more frequently too!
You’re welcome! Hope to see you in person soon 🙂
