I participated in an Influencer Program on behalf of Mom Central for Dove. I received a product sample to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for participating.
Last October, I got to try Dove’s Clear Tone Deodorant, and I was pretty happy with the results. So when Dove invited me to try their Advanced Care Anti-Perspirant, I was psyched to give it a shot.
Clear Tone’s claim to fame was that it reduces redness and discoloration in the underarm area – but that hasn’t been an issue for me. Dove Advanced Care, on the other hand, promises to moisturize underarm skin and provide softer, smoother underarms in just three days. Those are results I can get behind! The Dove Advanced Care has very similar ingredients to the Dove Clear Tone, and I found that the results were very similar. I’m going to pull a direct quote from my Dove Clear Tone review and say “I never would have thought I needed moisturizer for my underarms (aren’t they are pretty moist anytime I am working out?), but I learned from the promotional materials that shaving your armpits can really dry them out – and I have definitely been prone to razor burn when I try to shave in a hurry. This deodorant is actually three parts deodorant to one part moisturizer, and the combination seems to work really well, because I do notice a difference in how my underarm skin is now super smooth.” Way to be consistent, Dove!
Dove also promises 48 hour odor and wetness protection, and this was something I was really interested in testing. I applied on Friday morning, and woke up Saturday morning still feeling fresh. Since my plan for today was mostly just errands (and no workouts since I’m running a marathon tomorrow), I opted not to shower and to see if I could keep the Dove Advanced Care going. It hasn’t been a full 48 hours yet, but I’m pleased to report that 36 hours later, my underarms still feel completely fresh – even after some sweaty cursing exertion when I attempted to use my new electric drill to install curtains in my apartment.
But where the Dove Advanced Care outshines the Clear Tone is in the variety of fragrances. As I wrote about last time, I like my deodorant to have a light scent. I don’t want it to compete with my perfume, but it makes me feel fresh, and like yummy scented body wash, it gives me a tiny burst of happy when I put it on in the morning 🙂 I received the “Nourished Beauty” and the “Revive” scents to try, and while I typically prefer fruity scents, I felt that the Revive competed with my perfume a bit. The Nourished Beauty, on the other hand, was a slightly feminine powdery scent, and it smelled good but also became unnoticeable after I had been wearing it for a few hours. Perfect!
I would definitely recommend the Dove Advanced Care Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant – it moisturizes much better than other brands I’ve tried, and for about the same price point (suggested retail price is $4.99-6.49, though my local Walmart is currently carrying it for $4.88, and I’m sure you could find sales at other drugstores). With the new plethora of scents, it would be hard to claim that you don’t like any of them and need to stick with your old brand. With summer coming up very soon, my underarms are going to be showing quite a bit more in public (pilates class ≠ public), and I’m glad I have Dove to get them smooth and ready.
As previously noted, I participated in this campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Dove. I received product samples to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item as a thank you for participating. All opinions expressed are my own and I was not pressured for a positive review.
