Tiki Birthday Party Menu

I wrote about my French Alps party menu for my birthday party in the mountains, which was a blast. The following Saturday, I was thrilled to host a big group of friends for a tiki-themed party at my house in Superior! The tiki theme was one I had used before, but both times I’ve picked this as my birthday party theme, it’s stemmed from me wanting tropical frozen drinks and Chinese food. I love both, and right I can’t remember the last time I had a frozen drink, so it’s a fun birthday treat to have them, even if they’re …

Race Report: Superior Mile 2022

Laura_Superior_4th_Parade_2022

Today was the annual Superior Fourth of July celebration, and it was quite a whirlwind this year! I had rebooked my COVID-delayed Run the Alps tour to do a trail running camp with champion ultrarunner Mimmi Kotka starting on July 5, and scheduled a flight to Europe as late in the day as possible… but that meant a very busy day before my flight. While I hoped to sleep until 5:15am, I instead woke up at 3:40am and pretty quickly realized I wouldn’t be able to get back to sleep. I tried to instead spend the time productively resting, and …

My boyfriend had suggested that Red Rocks is usually so hard packed it doesn’t get muddy, and he …

Last summer, like many people staying in the same job through “The Great Resignation”, I started getting more and more burned out at work. Where in June I had a team of seven people, staff kept leaving and leaving, and by November, I was down to one manager (who was going on maternity leave in December) and me. Yikes. I was working 12-18 hours a day, in a slew of never ending back-to-back-to-back meetings. It …

Weekend Recap: Double Dog Date Weekend

Sadie_Loves_Heather_Avery

My work day on Friday ended in an excellent way – with a wine tasting! I had a pretty frenetic work day up until then, but it was really nice to know that there was a hard stop to the day. This event had fifty people, and I did a class on the basics of wine tasting, then we tasted a variety of Coppola wines. I had actually visited the Coppola winery when I went to Sonoma years ago, and it’s a really cool place to visit! However, I have to admit that the wines are not totally my favorite …
